This wonderful painting of Taos, New Mexico was painted by Taos Pueblo artist Juanita Lucero in 1931.
Juanita and her two children became famous when renowned artist Catharine Carter Critcher did a painting of them in 1924. It is housed in the Eiteljorg Museum. Juanita would often model for the Toas Society of artists that resided in Taos and Santa Fe during this era. Juanita shortly after meeting Catharine begin her career in painting also. Probably influences by the many artists she had meet and her friendship with Catharine. Juanita Lucero is one of a few Taos Pueblo women artist and was certainly one of the first to pursue painting. Her work is very rare.
