Description

A stunning, heavy Navajo bracelet by Frank Peshlakai. Circa is estimated from the late 1940's to early 1950's. It has the RARE hallmark of FRANK PESHLAKAI and features 9 turquoise stones, which are a mix of different mines (Cerrillos, Morenci, Blue Gem). Each stone has a drill hole, with a small silver dowel placed in each of the holes. The pueblo tribes of Northern New Mexico crafted the tab necklaces during this early era. Often when turquoise was scarce the Navajo's would disassemble tab necklace and use the stones for bracelets, rings etc. The silver dowel or post would be placed in each hole for appearance purposes.

Heavy rolled ingot silver was used for the base, with large silver shots or drops cut in the middle and filed smooth for the outer edge of the bracelet. The slightly graduated stones measure from 7/8" up to center stones of 3/4". The bracelet measures 1 3/16" wide, top-center, tapering to 1/2" at the smooth ends. The inside measurement of 5 3/4" with a 1" gap, with a weight of 94.4 grams. Please visit our Artist Biography page for more information on Frank Peshlakai.
