Description

This lovely Kewa 6 strand necklace features deep tomato red Mediterranean coral tube beads. Added are natural turquoise pieces of many shapes and colors, along with a variety of spiney oyster beads, making this a stunning necklace. The necklace is 32" total length including an 8 1/2" traditional wrap. Lovely necklace on!

This style of beadwork is thought to be the oldest form of jewelry from New Mexico and is still practiced today mostly among Native Americans of the Santo Domingo (Kewa) and San Felipe Pueblos. It predates the metalworking and lapidary techniques practiced by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni, which were introduced by Europeans.
