Description

A beautifully crafted ring by Navajo master artist Fred Thompson. Fine detailed file work frames a beautifully aged natural turquoise stone, which at one time was probably a recycled turquoise ear bob (earring) or old tab necklace stone. The hole is often filled with silver or wood fibers with pitch. A wonderful patina graces this ring. The ring face measures 7/8" long by 5/8" wide. Size 12. Hallmarked with the Freds Tilda.

Fred Thompson (1921-2002) active (1936-1990's) worked as a smith for trader Tobe Turpen at the age of 15 and built his career on the skills he learned in Turpen's shop. He made his own stamps, never sold to dealers, and only sold wholesale to Tobe Turpen. After serving in WWII, he continued to make pieces into the 1990's. He was a teacher as well as a silversmith. World renowned, he focused on traditional Navajo styles, producing his work with utmost skill using the highest quality stones available. A master of the art.
