This buckle is hand crafted Navajo work. It features fine, hand stamp work with a beautiful natural Lone Mountain turquoise stone as the center piece. Not hallmarked which was common during this period. The buckle measures 2" long by 1 1/4" wide, and will fit a 7/8" belt.
This great piece comes
from the family/collection of long time trader Charles Newcomb. Mr.
Newcomb was the second owner of the established 1926 trading post, Casa
del Navajo in Coolidge, NM. Mr. Newcomb employed Navajo craftspeople to
make their creations at the post for tourists and visitors and also purchased directly from the many craftsmen and women in the area. Mr. Newcomb began trading at the beginning of the 1900's as a clerk at the Guam Lumber and Trading co. near Old Coolidge.
