Description

This lovely Kewa 3 strand necklace features large, graduated, deep tomato red Mediterranean coral beads. Each strand of this stunning necklace is 32" total length. The matching earring are 2" long, including the silver posts. This set is beautiful on!

This style of beadwork is thought to be the oldest form of jewelry from New Mexico and is still practiced today mostly among Native Americans of the Santo Domingo (Kewa) and San Felipe Pueblos. Coral was often used in the early trade with the coastal tribes. It predates the metalworking and lapidary techniques practiced by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni, which were introduced by Europeans.
