Description

In August 2010 at the Santa Fe Indian Market, we had the honor of meeting Lawrence and his family. We asked if he would identify two pieces of jewelry for us that we had acquired through a Family collection. He easily identified a beautiful overlay bracelet that he had made in 1950. We visited with him for awhile and learned how he became interested in jewelry making. It was such a pleasure for us to have this opportunity, knowing that his work will play a significant part in the history of Hopi silversmiths.

Lawrence had been a silversmith for over 60 years and
his work has been featured in numerous publications and collected by museums such as the Heard Museum, Phoenix, the Museum of Northern Arizona, and the Peabody Museum, Harvard University.

This is a wonderful heavy overlay bolo, depicting a snake dancer figure in motion. The detail is exceptional on this bolo!

It measures 3 7/8" tall by 1 3/4" wide, with 2 1/2" silver tips. The figure is slightly curved. The thick black braided leather measures 21" each side.
