Description

This lovely Pueblo necklace features a mix of vivid blue and green Natural Turquoise tabs separated with Natural turquoise heishi beads. At the top is a 5" traditional wrap. The turquoise appears to be a mix of Nevada turquoise, that has aged in multiple colors over many years and much wear. 371 grams of beautifully aged natural turquoise.

A great deal of hard work goes into the making of these type necklaces. The smooth, carefully shaped tabs and fine workmanship of the heishi lends itself to a master at his or her craft. It is just beautiful on! The necklace is 15" long (one side) or 31" total length including the 5" wrap. The largest tab is 1 1/4" long by 7/8" wide. Note: Pictures taken both, in outside sunlight and inside.

This style of beadwork is thought to be the oldest form of jewelry from New Mexico and is still practiced today mostly among Native Americans of the Santo Domingo (Kewa) and San Felipe Pueblos. These necklaces have been worn for decades by many different tribes. It predates the metalworking and lapidary techniques practiced by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni, which were introduced by Europeans.
