Description

This special little bolo tie is set with a beautiful carved turquoise and coral hand. The silver setting is absolute special, with the fine detailed stamp design on 3 sides of the protruding triangles. Possibly cast. Whomever the silversmith was, they were a master with detail. These are not often seen and probably were not often done, even though both Leekya and Juan De Dios were known to carve hands for jewelry settings. The one pictured in the C.G. Wallace auction book, pg.122 is of a hand by Juan De Dios. Both hands and feet by Leekya have also been recorded. Leekya Deyuse did not do silver work, but Juan de Dios was a master silversmith. We leave the question to the maker unanswered, but both have possibilities.

The bolo measures 1 3/8" tall by 1" wide. The bolo tips are 1 5/8" long. Total length of the braided leather, including tips is 37" long. Beautifully aged with a great patina and also a little bit of weight to the piece. No signatures or maker marks but there is an etched H, which C.G. Wallace used as one of his traders' codes. Circa: 1940's.
