Description

John Adair (1944) stated in his book titled, The Navajo and Pueblo Silversmiths, that Horace Iule (Aiuli) (c.1901-1978) had achieved a level of success that enabled him to rely upon his craft for his sole livelihood. He also identified Iule as "one of the two or three best artisans in the Zuni Pueblo."

Horace was best known for his mastery of silvercasting and this lovely cross shows his dedication to detail, with fine hand stamped rays surround each of the Cerrillos turquoise stones. Soft, rounded edges of his silver adds the final touch to this piece. It measures 3" long by 2 1/4" wide. A 18" hand crafted chain accompanies the cross.

This beautiful cross is the featured picture with the biography for Horace Iule in the new publication, American Indian Jewelry II: A-L 1,800 Artist Biographies, by Gregory Schaaf.
