Zuni artist Dexter Cellicion (1931-1999) crafted this wonderful belt buckle. He is best known for his Kachina designs and mosaic inlay. This Zuni sunface buckle is set with turquoise, jet, rainbow green snail shell, brown shell and coral, with the sunface figure being raised above a beautiful shell background. Note the tiny squash blossom around the neck of the figure and carved feathers. The detail throughout this buckle is a wonderful example of one of Zuni's most talented artists. It has a nice heavy weight also. This one is not hallmarked, which was common with most of his work. There are etched letters and numbers on the back, which could be a trader's code or owners marking.

The buckle measures 1 5/8" tall by 2 3/4" and will fit a 1" belt.
