Description

A incredible bolo tie set with a large, high grade Natural, contoured surface Stenich turquoise cabochon. This bolo tie offers the absolute best of Simplicio's work, with several of his beautiful stamped leafs and a detailed, raised stamped snake. The bolo measures 2 1/2" long by 2" wide tapering to 1 1/2". The stamped bolo tips are 2 5/8" long. Beautifully aged with a great patina and also a bit of weight to the piece. No signatures or maker marks but definitely the work of Simplicio. Circa: Late 1950's. This outstanding piece is pictured on the front cover of the publication, Southwest Silver Jewelry, by Paula A. Baxter. A Schiffer book for Collectors.

Dan Simplicio learned jewelry making from his uncle, Juan Dedios. Simplicio was the first to develop styles and materials usage that have since become commonplace. He was most active creating metal art between the 1920's through the late 1950's. He collaborated with a number of the most widely recognized masters of Zuni art, including Leekya Deyuse, Teddie Weahkee, Leo Poblano, Bernard Homer, and Lee Edaakie.

Simplicio's work is cited in every major publication chronicling 20th century Zuni jewelers.
