Description

This amazing necklace is strongly attributed to the early silver work of Hosteen Goodluck. Hosteen was widely respected as one of the most important, early Navajo silversmiths. He was a master jeweler and active from the 1890's to 1930's. This beautiful classic 1900 squash blossom necklace offers first phase crafting of ingot silver. The sound of the beads and the feel of the silver are beyond compare. The center piece is a beautiful sand cast naja.

This amazing necklace is not small, with 16mm beads. Each blossom measures 2" from end to end. The Naja measures 3 1/4" long by 2 1/4" wide. A tradition squaw wrap, quite worn graces the back of the necklace. The bead portion measures 28" long, with the addition size of the 3 1/4" Naja.

The string holding the beads have 2 areas that have broken and have been re-tied. The over all piece is in excellent condition, but re-strings would be suggested. Similar pieces are found at the Heard Museum and in the publication American Indian Jewelry II, by Gregory Schaaf on page 226, Hosteen Goodluck.
