Description

This wonderful duck fetish is by Zuni Pueblo artisan Sullivan Shebola . This fascinating piece is assembled from a variety of materials including olive shell, mother of pearl, jet, and turquoise. Each area has fine etching, depicting feathers.

He measures 2 1/2 inches long by 5/8" wide by 1 1/8" tall. This is a Native American hand-carved item and comes from the Zuni Pueblo in northern New Mexico.

The most renowned fetish carvers are the Zuni, who call themselves Asiwi (Ah-she-wee). Traditionally, Zuni fetishes are small carvings made from various materials by the Zuni Indians. These carvings serve a ceremonial purpose for their creators and depict animals and icons integral to their culture. As a form of contemporary Native American art, they are sold with non-religious intentions to collectors worldwide.
