This wonderful Francis Leekya carved bear offers the old style of carving that was used many years ago by his father Leekya Deyuse. Francis used the knowledge he had learned from the early carvers in Zuni and applied that knowledge into his own unique creations. Francis was a good friend to our family and because of that relationship we were able to purchase and trade turquoise for many beautiful pieces of his jewelry. Francis began to carve later in life, due to his failing health. We feel blessed to have been able to enjoy both his talents in jewelry making and fetish carving!

The great bear is carved from the material (Zuni stone) and has a gathering bundle with a spiny oyster arrow and a turquoise arrow that are tied with swine. The wonderful face has turquoise eyes and a red coral tongue. It measures 3 1/8" long by 1 1/2" tall.
