Zuni artist Andrew Dewa was active from1960's until his death in 2001. He was best known for his figural mosaic inlay and his sun-face motif. This beautifully made Zuni Shalako bolo is set with turquoise, jet, Mother of Pearl, coral and yellow lip shell. Parts of the figure are his distinct raised mosaic design. The detail throughout this bolo is a wonderful example of one of Zuni's most talented artists. This one is hallmarked with A. Dewa, ZUNI.
The bolo measures 4" tall by 1 5/8" wide with 2 1/8" tips. The black braided leather with tips total length is 38" long.
This bolo is one of many collected over years by a Physician/professor that wore his bolos every day to his classroom and lectures. Many have small stickers showing the date he wore them and in what class he was teaching. It's an honor to share some of his special bolos with others.
