Description

John Adair (1944) stated in his book titled, The Navajo and Pueblo Silversmiths, that Horace Iule (Aiuli) (c.1901-1978) had achieved a level of success that enabled him to rely upon his craft for his sole livelihood. He also identified Iule as "one of the two or three best artisans in the Zuni Pueblo."

Horace was best known for his mastery of silver casting and this lovely buckle shows his dedication to detail. Fine hand stamping, soft rounded edges of his silver and his setting of beautiful natural Morenci turquoise nuggets makes this a perfect example of his fine work. It measures 3 5/8" long by 2" wide and will accommodate a 1 1/2" belt. The buckle is not hallmarked, which was common on many of his earlier pieces, but comes with strong pictured attributions.
