Description

This style of beadwork is thought to be the oldest form of jewelry from New Mexico and is still practiced today mostly among Native Americans of the Santo Domingo (Kewa) and San Felipe Pueblos. It predates the metalworking and lapidary techniques practiced by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni, which were introduced by Europeans.

This lovely 8 strand necklace features materials of clam shell, and turquoise often used by the artists that hand rolled each strand. This heishi is all Native American hand crafted and is not foreign made heishi from overseas. A great deal of hard work goes into the making of these type necklaces. It is just beautiful on!

The necklace is 32" total length including 3/8" beautifully crafted silver tube cone. The very fine heishi is approx. 3mm. Please visit our new KEWA page, under Jewelry for more beautiful necklaces.
