Description

This bracelet, possibly created by Juan De Dios has a simple, yet elegant design. Fourteen set turquoise stones are precisely placed for a lovely balance to the stamped and hand wrought silver cuff. There is also a very worn UITA2, C.G. Wallace United Indian Traders Association mark on the back of the bracelet, which dates it to the 30's-40's. Juan also worked for Trader John Kennedy and Juan mentored Dan Simplicio. Adair book (1944). The death date of Juan De Dios is still in question and is not recorded. John Adair studies in the late 1930's references Juan in his book with no mention of his passing, as he was still actively making jewelry at the time. According to Shiprock Trading (Jeb Foutz), he has also had pieces by Juan De Dios with the UITA2 die stamp and dates them to the 1930's.

The bracelet is 1 1/8" across the top, with an inside measurement of 5 1/2" with a 1" opening.
90.3 grams.

This attribution to this unsigned piece comes both from strong design and stamping recognition, along with the personal history of the original collectors.
