Description

Hopi - Tewa potter Nampeyo (c. 1857 - 1942) was known as the finest Hopi potter of her generation. Her successful founding and maintenance of the Sityatki Revival Movement in ceramics not only breathed life back into an ancient art form, but also improved the economic standing of the Hopi - Tewa people and sparked a family tradition of pottery craftsmanship that has lasted generations.

This lovely Polychrome low bowl measures 13 1/4" diameter by an 11 3/4" inner rim by 2 3/4" tall. The circa has been dated as mid 1920's to early 30's. It is in excellent condition with no cracks or nicks. Corinne Cain, ASA, a noted appraiser on the work of Nampeyo, has visually inspected this bowl and identified it as the work of Nampeyo. A letter of attribution by Corinne Cain can be obtained upon request from the buyer.
