Description

This beautiful Corn Maiden was masterfully carved by Brian Honyouti (c 1947 -2016). Brian is one of three Hopi Brothers that are well-known for their Kachina’s. The brothers are featured in many publications, with Brian’s work having been written about extensively. He took his carvings to another level and is considered the forerunner in carving realistic figures. He was also the first to use a wood preservative and a varnish, which allows the flesh areas of the natural wood colors to show. Many of his pieces have subtle colors that give an earthy, natural feel to it. He uses oil paints, instead of acrylic most often used by other carvers. He prefers carving with pocketknives, hacksaw blades, chisels and small files. His work comes from a deep connection to his Hopi culture and from the world as he sees it. His work is highly collectable and you see why once you hold one of his pieces. Note: please view the pictures to see the incredible work.

This wonderful Corn Maiden is 9 5/8” tall x 6 ½” deep x 5 ½” wide. Her Hopi bowl contain blue corn. Hallmarked with his deep carved initials BH.
