Description

This little whirlwind design, horsehair basket measures 1 3/4" round and 5/8" tall with a smaller top opening of 1". Members of the Tohono O'odham tribal nation (formerly known as Papago Indians), live along the Arizona, Mexico border. The Tohono O'odham people are world-famous for their intricately woven miniature horsehair baskets. The horsehair is all natural colors of black, white and shades of brown. Basket making is a long-honored tradition of the Tohono O'odham people who make baskets from various materials such as willow, yucca (most common today), and horsehair. We carry an extensive collection of miniature horsehair baskets that Mr. Brown traded for in the late 40's early 50's. He traveled to Sells, Arizona and traded for the Papago baskets from the long established Robertson Trading Post that was located on the Tohono O'odham reservation border.
