This very traditional Santo Domingo 2 strand necklace features 60 beautiful Conch shell carved birds with hand cut turquoise center drilled tabs. Circa: 1950's. The rich deep green turquoise and the soft natural colors of the shell make this necklace quite an attractive piece. For religious reasons, the Santo Domingo people do not carve detailed models of living things for their jewelry. Their fetish carving is mostly limited to stylized birds such as these.

The necklace is strung with hand crafted Santa Domingo olive shell heshi. The total length is 28" long. The birds graduate from 1/2" up to 1". Just beautiful on!
