Lawrence Namoki (1949-2020) was born in the
Walpi village in the First Mesa at Hopi. His art career began with carving Kachina's and then began his pottery making in the 1980's. Known for his two styles of design, from deeply carved figures to delicately painted imagery of Hopi history and myths. His jars are coil built and painted with clay slips.
The lovely jar is painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip. The wonderful design features the open hand of healing and protection. The
size is 4” tall by 3 ½” diameter. Hallmarked and dated 2012. In excellent condition.
Lawrence's work is permanent part of the Smithsonian collection, and can be seen in Museums, galleries and private collection across the world.
