Description

Well known Zuni artist, Nora Leekity began making jewelry for the trade in the early 1940's. She is most well known for her unique and lovely horse bolo ties. Her unique pieces were meticulously handmade of Sterling Silver, Turquoise, Pin Shell, Mother of Pearl, Gold-lipped shell, coral and Jet.
This beautiful bolo tie depicts a saddled horse and is set with turquoise, gold-lipped shell, pin shell and Mother of Pearl. This bolo tie offers the best of Nora's work, with her distinct horse design and precise silver work. The inlaid tips were also made by Nora and assembled with this bolo. The bolo measures 1 7/8" long by 2 1/2" wide. No signatures or maker marks but definitely the work of Nora Leekity. Circa: 1950's. This bolo tie is from an estate collection with provenance from the original owner.
Her work is published in Zuni Jewelry, the Art and the People, Vol 1, by Barbara and Ed Bell, American Indian Jewelry 1, by Gregory Schaaf.
