Description

John Adair (1944) stated in his book titled, The Navajo and Pueblo Silversmiths, that Horace Iule (Aiuli) (c.1901-1978) had achieved a level of success that enabled him to rely upon his craft for his sole livelihood. He also identified Iule as "one of the two or three best artisans in the Zuni Pueblo."

Horace was best known for his mastery of silvercasting and this lovely cross and figures shows his dedication to detail, with fine hand stamping and chisel work on many of his pieces. Soft, rounded edges of his silver adds the final touch to this piece. It pendant measures 1 1/4" long by 3/4" wide. This piece is not hallmarked, but is strongly attributed to Horace Iule.
