Description

This lovely Kewa 6 strand necklace features deep tomato red Mediterranean, hand rolled coral beads. A great deal of hard work goes into the making of these type necklaces. Beautifully matched and beautiful on! The necklace is 28" total length including a 5" traditional wrap. The beads measure 2.8 mm slightly graduating to 3.8mm at bottom.

This style of beadwork is thought to be the oldest form of jewelry from New Mexico and is still practiced today mostly among Native Americans of the Santo Domingo (Kewa) and San Felipe Pueblos. It predates the metalworking and lapidary techniques practiced by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni, which were introduced by Europeans.

This coral is all Native American hand rolled and is not foreign made material from overseas.
