Description

A beautifully crafted ranger buckle by Navajo master artist Fred Thompson. Perfect channel inlay of natural Morenci turquoise, with areas of iron pyrite, adds the final touch to this nice set. A wonderful patina graces the silver. It buckle measures 1 5/8" long by 1 1/8" wide. Will fit a 1/2" belt or hat band. Hallmarked.

Fred Thompson worked as a smith for trader Tobe Turpen at the age of 15 and built his career on the skills he learned in Turpen's shop. He made his own stamps, never sold to dealers, and only sold wholesale to Tobe Turpen. After serving in WWII, he continued to make pieces into the 1990's. He was a teacher as well as a silversmith. World renowned, he focused on traditional Navajo styles, producing his work with utmost skill using the highest quality stones available. A master of the art.
