Description

This lovely 3 strand Pueblo necklace features a mix of Natural Blue Gem turquoise tabs/heishi, 7 rare Hubbell Beads, clam shell, pink Rhodonite with hand rolled and pump drilled clam shell heishi beads. The addition of a traditional wrap completes this really nice necklace. The natural turquoise has beautifully aged into different hues of blues and greens. A great deal of hard work goes into the making of these type necklaces. The smooth, carefully shaped tabs and fine workmanship of the heishi lends itself to a master at his or her craft. Original wrap. It is just beautiful on! The necklace is 30" long total length. The clam shell heishi is around 5mm. Perfect for anyone to wear.

This style of beadwork is thought to be the oldest form of jewelry from New Mexico and is still practiced today mostly among Native Americans of the Santo Domingo (Kewa) and San Felipe Pueblos. These necklaces have been worn for decades by many different tribes. It predates the metalworking and lapidary techniques practiced by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni, which were introduced by Europeans.

This necklace is all Native American hand crafted and is not foreign made, dyed or treated heishi from overseas.
