This Tawa Kachina was carved and signed by world renowned Hopi carver Jimmy Kewanwytewa. It measures 15 3/8" tall by 8 1/4" wide. He is in excellent condition, with no cracks or broken parts. Some of the wooden feathers appear to have been re-glued. Signed JK on the bottom right foot.
The supreme being tawa has a vast number of stories relating to its interaction with all people as well as animals and monsters. Yet the kachina form of the figure appears in the Mixed Dance as simply another of the average kachinas. It does not appear in any major ceremonial events. (Sun Kachina).
